Broccoli Blueberry Smoothie

April 30, 2011 · Filed Under Blueberry Smoothies, Vegetable Smoothies · 7 Comments

I have never made a smoothie with broccoli and blueberries specifically, but I have throw in some broccoli florets when making a smoothie every now and then. Quite possibly one of my smoothies had blueberries but I don’t remember for sure. I have been making a habit of adding vegetables at the last minute to many of my fruit smoothies as they provide good nutrition, aren’t wasted and rarely to the detract from the flavor. You would be amazed at how much vegetables you can add to a fruit smoothie without your kids being any the wiser. ;-)

But I did have a request for a broccoli and blueberry smoothie so I went hunting and this combination has not been tried and published that often. In fact, this is the only one I could find on the livestrong website. Please provide any links or your own recipe in the comments below. I’d love to add more to the site. In the meantime, try this one or start tossing in few broccoli florets to any smoothie you are making.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup of steamed broccoli
  • 1 cup of 100 percent cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup of low-fat plain yogurt

Blend and combine to make 1 smoothie. Add strawberries or blackberries for an additional burst of nutrition.

Berry Healthy Breakfast Smoothie

berry-healthy-breakfast-smoothieWhile just about all smoothies are packed with vitamins since their ingredients are usually fruits and vegetables, there are some healthy smoothies that are healthier and more rich in vitamins than others. This is one of the best healthy smoothies I have come across and its taste can’t be beat. I usually prefer frozen fruit for a better texture and consistency, but frozen or fresh this will be a delicious and healthy breakfast smoothie or anytime smoothie.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 1 cup low-fat milk
  • 1 cup pomegranate (cranberry is an okay substitute)
  • 2 cups ice

Easily 2 servings, but don’t feel too guilty if you finish it by yourself, it is that good.

Blend this vegetable smoothie until smooth. Adding the nutmeg and cinnamon will give it great fragrance.

Tomato Smoothie

Tomatoes are a great ingredient for a healthy smoothie recipe because of their antioxidant properties. Men in particular should add tomatoes to their diet to help prevent prostate cancer.

  • 1/2 cup tomatoe juice
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1/2 cup carrots
