June 28, 2011 · Filed Under Orange Smoothies · 9 Comments

My daughter came home from school the other morning with a recipe her teacher gave to everyone…It’s titled Orange Smoothie, but I think a better name for it would be Orange Creamsicle Smoothie…it tastes almost identical…

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup of orange TangOranges)
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Ice (enough to make desired consistency)

Place everything into a blender, mix till ice is crushed.

Strawberry Peach Carrot Smoothie

February 13, 2011 · Filed Under Peach Smoothies, Strawberry Smoothies · 4 Comments

strawberry-peach-carrot-smoothieNext time, I think I’d omit the yogurt in favor of a banana (not a big fan of yogurt’s tanginess in smoothies) and add an extra carrot for sweetness (this wasn’t unsweet, which is why I didn’t add agave nectar, but I figure an extra carrot for sweetness is still a sneaky way of getting more…carrot. Also, I know it seems odd that carrot adds more sweetness than the fruit, but it does).

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium carrot (peeled)
  • 1 fresh peach
  • 6 or so frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 container of vanilla nonfat greek yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon flax seed oil

Blend blend blend until somewhat runny (the frozen strawberries make this more like a frozen yogurt when first combined, needs a little more blending action to make it drinkable).

Healthy Green Coconut Smoothie

February 8, 2011 · Filed Under Green Smoothies, Healthy Smoothies · 22 Comments

Green-Coconut-SmoothieI have been experimenting more with coconut oil and I think I like it. So you may see a few more coconut oil smoothies in the future. It isn’t a staple for most kitchens, but maybe it should be. Coconut oil, said to be “healthiest oil on earth” is extremely good for for you (read more here) and adds a unique taste you will enjoy. Try and and let me know how you like it. Here is a brand I recommend: Barlean’s Organic Oils Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas, frozen
  • 2 HUGE handfuls spinach (you won’t even taste it)
  • 1 cup milk (almond or soy is even better than moo juice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Add all ingredients into a blender. Blend until mixed. Serve in tall glasses and enjoy.

Strawberry Lemon Zing Smoothie Recipe

January 15, 2011 · Filed Under Strawberry Smoothies · 7 Comments

Okay, this smoothie may not be for everyone, but I was craving a taste of summer. It is 33 degrees today in the good old city of Richmond, VA and I’m feeling the strong desire for warmer weather. Lemonade stirs memories of warmer times so I felt strawberry smoothie with the zing of lemon was a good choice. Let me know if this smoothie made your day, cold or not.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups lemonade
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup strawberry yogurt

Pour all liquid ingredients into the blender. Add all frozen ingredients. Blend at MIX setting for 30 seconds then blend at SMOOTH setting until smooth. While the machine is running, move the stir stick around counter-clockwise to aid mixing. Serve immediately. Each recipe serves 2, in my opinion, your serving sizes may vary. ;-)
