College Dorm Smoothie

September 23, 2009 · Filed Under Dessert Smoothies, Fruit Smoothies · 2 Comments

Most of us don’t really have a package of frozen strawberries or a container of plain yogurt (not to mention flaxseed) lying around, but we crave smoothies too!  So this is for you, ESPECIALLY if you’re a college student and you can swipe all these items from your dining hall.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ice cubes
  • All-fruit Popsicle (I used Edy’s strawberry Fresh Fruit bar)
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 6 oz flavored yogurt (I used Yoplait light banana creme pie)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/3 packet of instant oatmeal (I used Quaker Low Sugar Strawberries and Cream)

and just blend it all up!

Submitted by a college student, obviously.

A smoothie with a kick from Captain Morgan. Nice. Mojito drinks have become more popular over the recent years so it was on a matter of time before the Mojito smoothie was created. Thanks for this smoothie recipe submission.

Ingredients:

  • 2.5 oz White Rum (Preferably Captain Morgan’s)
  • 2 oz lime juice
  • 5 oz 7 up
  • 2 tablespoons raw sugar (or white)
  • 2 branches of fresh mint with leaves
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Process all of the ingredients in a blender, except for the mint. Pour into two tall glasses. Crush a branch on mint in each glass several times with a spoon. Serves 2

Pomegranate Smoothie With Cranberry

July 25, 2009 · Filed Under Fruit Smoothies, Healthy Smoothies · Comment

Sadly I only discovered the incredible flavor rush of fresh pomegranate seed a year or so ago. So I have missed out, but I am making up for lost time. When the pomegranate is in season (Oct. – Jan.) I try to get the actual fruit, but other times I must buy the pomegranate juice to make smoothie. Here is a great pomegranate smoothie recipe that will perk up your taste buds and give you a burst of energy.

Ingredients:
3 cups chilled unsweetened cranberry juice
3/4 cup chilled pomegranate juice
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
6 packets of no-calorie sweetener
3 cups chilled club soda

In large pitcher, combine cranberry juice, pomegranate juice and lime juice. Stir in sweetener until dissolved. Add club soda and pour into glasses. (Serves 4) Courtesy of InStyle Magazine
