Sour Black Cherry Smoothie

black-cherry-smoothieAre you the kind of person who like the sour more in the “sweet and sour” combination? Do you like a good pucker after you take a drink? Wait, don’t answer that. But you know what I mean. If tart is your taste then you should give this cherry smoothie a try. It is sour but great tasting. Don’t be afraid to add a sweetener such as Stevia if you need a little more sweet in your sour.

Sour Cherry ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup cranberry juice
  • 1 cup pitted black cherries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 4 ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in your favorite blender and blend (from low to high if you have variable speeds) until smooth. Serves 2 or 1 if you are really hungry.

Healthy Green Coconut Smoothie

February 8, 2011 · Filed Under Green Smoothies, Healthy Smoothies · 23 Comments

Green-Coconut-SmoothieI have been experimenting more with coconut oil and I think I like it. So you may see a few more coconut oil smoothies in the future. It isn’t a staple for most kitchens, but maybe it should be. Coconut oil, said to be “healthiest oil on earth” is extremely good for for you (read more here) and adds a unique taste you will enjoy. Try and and let me know how you like it. Here is a brand I recommend: Barlean’s Organic Oils Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas, frozen
  • 2 HUGE handfuls spinach (you won’t even taste it)
  • 1 cup milk (almond or soy is even better than moo juice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Add all ingredients into a blender. Blend until mixed. Serve in tall glasses and enjoy.

Christmas is coming and one of the best Christmas aromas is the cool refreshing scent of peppermint. Add a little Christmas flavor to your smoothie this year and try adding peppermint to a smoothie. While this peppermint smoothie isn’t exactly healthy, it is wonderful for a treat now and then. If you have peppermint lovers in your family (peppermint bark, anyone?) then this cool smoothie will be sure to please.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of low-fat frozen vanilla yogurt (you can use it unfrozen but it will be too runny)
  • 2 cups of 1% milk
  • 2 tbs crushed pepermint candy (or peppermint bark for some chocolate flavor)
  • 1 1/2 cups of ice
  • optional peppermint sprig for garnish

Add to a blender and create your Christmastime Peppermint Smoothie! You may need to blend a little longer to get the peppermint candy pulverized.
