Now that I’m in my 40s I rarely have the need for a hangover remedy or cure. Those days are long behind me but I’m sure a few people will have the need for this hangover remedy smoothie. The real question is can you stand the noise of the blender? ;-)
You’ll notice there are some odd ingredients in this smoothie recipe such as chamomile flowers, slippery elm power and gingerroot. They are there to help with stomach issues and help relax the mind, all good things for treating a hangover, yes? Which also makes this a great smoothie for stomach pains, cramps, sickness and stress.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 apples
- 1 banana
- 1/2 inch piece of gingerroot, peeled
- 1/2 tsp dried Chamomile Flowers

Vitamins & Supplements)
In a blender, combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth.
And if you are wondering what the heck slippery elm is: Slippery elm is used to relieve gastrointestinal conditions, sore throats, ulcers, and respiratory irritations today. External uses include treatment of skin conditions, vaginitis, and hemorrhoids. It can be used as a cough medicine or as a skin smoother and softener. Mango Strawberry Banana Smoothie
I found this wonderful smoothie image on Flickr.com and then found the smoothie recipe on Sandra’s Recipes at http://sandrarecipeblogsite.blogspot.com. Not only is this mango, strawberry, banana smoothie a treat for the tongue, it is a visual delight for the eyes. Sandra has done a masterful job creating this smoothie. Please visit her site to find more recipes (and every recipe has a photo). This smoothie needs to be built in two colorful layers. It takes a little extra time, but you and anyone you share this smoothie with will be delighted at the results.
An added feature for this smoothie is the fact that is a non-dairy smoothie.

Perfect Purple Detox Smoothie
I haven’t tried this detox smoothie with the exact ingredients yet. The smoothie detoxing ingredients are extensive and may be hard to find, so feel free to substitute where you need to. The original recipe writer write, “the cayenne powder gives it a spicy punch that intensifies the rest of the flavors, such as sweet-tart raspberries, antioxidant-rich wild blueberries, tangy apple cider vinegar, smooth almond milk, sweet acai juice, nutty flax seed meal and the coconut water ice cubes.”
With a healthy description like that you know its got to be worth trying. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods stores will have the ingredients, but I put links to some of them on Amazon if you need to buy from there.
Ingredients:
- 12 ounces Acai Juice
- 6 ounces almond or soy milk (I prefer almond milk)
- 1 Tbsp soy creamer
- 1 cup frozen wild blueberries
- 1 banana (frozen)
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
- 1 Tbsp Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal
(blueberry if you can find it, try Trader Joe’s)
- 1 cup ice cubes (coconut water ice cubes pref’d)
- 1 Tbsp Macro Greens
powder
- 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1-3 dashes cayenne powder
Serves 2 healthy people in need of detox.

Strawberry Peach Carrot Smoothie
Next time, I think I’d omit the yogurt in favor of a banana (not a big fan of yogurt’s tanginess in smoothies) and add an extra carrot for sweetness (this wasn’t unsweet, which is why I didn’t add agave nectar, but I figure an extra carrot for sweetness is still a sneaky way of getting more…carrot. Also, I know it seems odd that carrot adds more sweetness than the fruit, but it does).
Ingredients:
- 1 medium carrot (peeled)
- 1 fresh peach
- 6 or so frozen strawberries
- 1/2 container of vanilla nonfat greek yogurt
- 1 Tablespoon flax seed oil
Blend blend blend until somewhat runny (the frozen strawberries make this more like a frozen yogurt when first combined, needs a little more blending action to make it drinkable).
