I love watermelon and the fact that it is only in season for such a short time means I try to eat it as often as I can during the few summer months when it is at its most refreshing and sweet. For some reason I don’t often use it my smoothie recipes even though watermelon is a incredibly healthy food for you. This delicious food is packed with some of the most powerful antioxidants in nature, including Vitamin C,  Vitamin A and Vitamin B7. These reduce the chance of colon cancer, relieve some symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, according to The World’s Healthiest Foods. So here is a summer smoothie recipe featuring watermelon, strawberries and peach flavor.

Peachy Watermelon Smoothie Ingredients:

  • 2-3 cups watermelon (seeded)
  • 1 cup low fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup strawberries (frozen)
  • 1/2 cup peach juice (or try 1 peach if you don’t have juice)

You know the drill, add to your blender and blend until smooth. Makes 2 nice size glasses.

No Oxidantal Buzz!

No Oxidantal Buzz!

This recipe combines the powerful antioxidants found in tart cherries with an antioxidant cousin, the pomegranate.  Mix them with some vodka and ice and the result is a multi-berryable buzz.  You can spice up the drink with some blackberry brandy.  Use it in moderation as it tends to overpower the other flavors.  You may or may want to add a spoonful of sugar to help the (tart) go down, although, it’s very delicious on its own!
Ingredients:

  • 8 oz Ice
  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Pomegranate Liquor
  • ½ oz Blackberry Brandy (Optional)
  • 8 oz Tart Cherry Juice
  • 1 Table Spoon Sugar (Add or Subtract to individual preference)

Preparation:

  • Mix all in Blender
  • Pour into 10 oz Glass
  • Garnish with a Maraschino Cherry
  • Serve

Recipe provided by Cherry Pharm, all natural cherry juice.

Blackberry Smoothie with a Twist

Blackberries pack a punch of antioxidants and this blackberry smoothie will keep piling on the healthy nutritional value with loads of other great, healthy ingredients. Yeah, yeah, it has ice cream too, but you can swap out non-fat vanilla yogurt if you like.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup frozen blackberries
  • 2 cups ice cream (vanilla will do nicely)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup 1% milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of lime juice

I would like to try this with 2% milk as well or even using lemon instead of lime. So please leave a comment if you try this and let us know what you think of your smoothie tweaks.
