What a wonderful breakfast smoothie combination. Apple, oats and cinnamon are a delicious flavor combo and are good for your health and energy. And just how good is cinnamon for you? A study of those who took the cinnamon saw a reduction in weight and BMI, which all decreased compared to baseline. Other benefits of this healthy spice were:

  • Cinnamon can be used as a natural preservative, inhibiting bacterial growth.
  • A ½ teaspoon of cinnamon per day can lower LDL, your “bad” cholesterol.
  • The smell of cinnamon can increase your memory and cognitive function.
  • Cinnamon is a natural cure for and migraines and migraines.

So what are you waiting for, get the blender out and try this apple and cinnamon smoothie for yourself.

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, cubed
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cup rice milk
  • 1 teaspoon honey or agave
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Soak oats in rice milk for 5 minutes. Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend on LOW until well blended.

cucumber-melon-smoothie-recipeOn a nice warm summer day or even a warm late spring day, if you close your eyes and sip on this refreshing smoothie you’d think you were wrapping a day up at the spa.  That is exactly what that this smoothie reminds me of. It is a great way to escape your busy everyday life, if you can take the time to put your feet up and sip away.

You definitely need to be a fan of cucumbers to appreciate this one.  Lucky for me, I love them.  This is a low fat, low calorie yet filling smoothie and is a great way to get in 1 serving of vegetables and 1 ½ servings of fruit in every smoothie.  Plus this smoothie has 8.2 grams of protein, that’s 2 grams more than an egg.  It also has 15% of the RDA for dietary fiber and a high dose of vitamin C to boot.  I love getting extra vitamin C in my diet and try to make sure my family gets plenty too.  With kids in three different schools and another one at home we can use all the immunity boosting we can get!  I am pretty sure you can too!

So go ahead and give this spa like cucumber honeydew melon smoothie a try, I am sure you will love it!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of Greek yogurt
  • 1 orange peeled
  • 2 cups of fresh honeydew (cut up and frozen)
  • 1 Tbs lemon
  • 1 cup of sliced cucumber
  • 10 ice cubes

Add all ingredients to Blender and blend to desired consistency.
